What is Toseína 2 mg/ml
- Active Ingredient: Codeína fosfato hemihidrato (codeine phosphate hemihydrate). (CIMA AEMPS)
- Strength: 2 mg of codeine per ml of oral solution.
- Form: Oral solution (syrup). Often colored red, supplied in bottles with a dosing cup.
Uses / Indications
- Intended for the symptomatic relief of dry cough (non‑productive cough) in adults and adolescents over 12 years old.
How to Use
- It’s given in doses spaced at least 6 hours apart, with a maximum of 4 doses per day.
- Treatment duration is short, usually no more than 3 days, unless advised otherwise by a physician. (
Warnings / Contraindications
- Do not use if under 12 years old.
- Not appropriate in cases of respiratory depression, severe breathing problems (e.g. COPD), acute asthma attacks. (
- Avoid use if allergic to codeine or any of its other components.
- Be cautious in the elderly or frail, or in those with liver, kidney, heart issues, or any condition that may be worsened by respiratory depression.
Possible Side Effects
- Common: somnolence (drowsiness), nausea, vomiting, constipation.
- Less common / Serious: respiratory depression, especially in overdose; confusion; potential allergic reactions.
